Nepal Day Program in Paris

The Embassy of Nepal, in cooperation with the Mairie of the 17th Arrondissement (borough) of Paris City, organized a Nepal Day Program on 19 April 2016, in conjunction with the 67th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Nepal and France.  The program featured a conference on the specific topics related to the reconstruction work, promotion of tourism and business and investment opportunities in Nepal and cultural presentation of Nepalese costume, music, dance, songs and cuisine.

Mme. Briggite Kuster, Maire of the 17th Arrondissement of Paris and Mr. Ram Babu Dhakal, Chargé d'Affaires, a.i. of the Embassy of Nepal jointly inaugurated the Program by lighting a Nepalese traditional lamp. The national anthems of both countries were played. Nepalese young boys and girls presented the faces of Nepal with the costume of different parts of the country.

The Maire described Nepal as a beautiful country with mountains, culture, arts and friendly people and recalled the last year's earthquakes that devastated the country. She renewed France's support to Nepal's reconstruction work and development of Nepal and expressed her pleasure to collaborate with the Embassy to organize the program at the Mairie of the 17th Arrondissement.

Mr. Dhakal extended Nepalese New Year's greetings and expressed sincere appreciation to the Maire for the Mairie's continued cooperation and for participation of the Ambassadors and diplomats of various countries in the program and their solidarity with the Government and people of Nepal in their efforts for the reconstruction work and socio-economic development. He conveyed the greetings of the Ambassador of Nepal who could not join the program due to cancellation of her flight in Kathmandu. He highlighted the importance of further strengthening Nepal-France relations which are based on the principles of friendship, goodwill, trust and mutual benefit. He appreciated the prompt response by the Government and people of France expressing their solidarity and support, immediately after the earthquake last year. Stressing that "Nepal is safe to visit" Mr. Dhakal requested French tourists to visit Nepal as it would help revive the tourism sector which plays a significant role in national economy, providing direct and indirect employment opportunity to millions of Nepalese people.

The participants of the conference underlined the need for accelerating the reconstruction work as victims in many far remote villages hit worst by the earthquake still lacked assistance to rebuild their houses.  They were keen to share information about their respective work in many villages in different districts, including Kavrepalanchwok, Sindhupalchwok, Dolakha, Solukhambum Nuwakot, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Gorkha.

Among them, Mr. Ludovic Jonard of Architecture and Development, and Mr. Richard Guillande of SIGNALERT made their power point presentations on the information booklet of the Nepal Reconstruction Authority (NRA) and the Manual for Post-Earthquake Rebuilding in Nepalese
