Press Release on the celebration of the National Day

            On the occasion of theNational Day of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, the Embassy of Nepal in Paris organized a reception at the Ambassador's Residence in Paris.  The national anthems of France and Nepal were played at the beginning of the program. Welcoming invited guests to the second national day celebration after the promulgation of the new Constitution of Nepal on 20th September 2015, H.E. Mrs. Ambika Devi Luintel, Ambassador of Nepal to France and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, highlighted the defining features of the Constitution which guarantees liberty and fundamental freedoms of the Nepali people and also ensures gender equality, justice and progress and prosperity of all. Federalism, inclusive administration, human rights and freedom, rule of law, independence of judiciary, elected local governments and multi-party democracy are the hallmarks of the Constitution, she added.

Ambassador Luintel mentioned that Nepal and France have been enjoying  excellent bilateral relations since the establishment of their diplomatic relations in 1949 and the relations goes back to more than a century when Nepali Prime Minister had undertaken a visit to France, letting the world know about Nepal. She appreciated solidarity and cooperation extended by the Government and people of France to victims of the earthquakes in 2015 in Nepal. She urged French tourists to visit Nepal, tourism being a backbone of the national economy by helping hundreds of thousands of Nepali people to run their tourism-related enterprises across the country. She expressed appreciation to UNESCO for support to Nepal’s efforts towards education development and cultural preservation, including monuments and temples located in world heritage sites in Nepal.

On the occasion, Chief Guest Ambassador Thierry Mathou, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development of the French Republic congratulated the Nepali people on the successful promulgation of the new Constitution and added that exchanges of the visit at people's level from old times have cemented our bilateral relations. He expressed satisfaction at the growing bilateral relations between Nepal and France and wished progress and prosperity to Nepal and Nepali people.

More than 100 people including Ambassadors and Permanent Delegates of various countries, members of diplomatic community, senior officials of UNESCO, representatives of the French Government, former French ambassadors to Nepal, prominent French citizens, business community, NGOs, Nepali community members and Embassy officials and their family participated in the National Day celebration. 

Mr. Narendra Bataju, a veteran and noted Sitar player charmed the audience with his rendition of traditional Nepali music. The invited guests were served authentic Nepali cuisine which they deeply appreciated
